Prints are 12"x18" and are limited to 250 and are priced very reasonably at $35! Come by Artists Alley, say hello...introduce yourself, and purchase a poster or two! :D All posters are pre-signed and numbered by me, any posters without a signature have not come from me/Celebration V.

Remarques:
A special remarque (a special stamping of my drawing in opaque white ink) for the print will be available at the show only, it will also include a *personalization. It will be $5. *no profanity/nudity...or anything bad. I reserve the right to refuse anything which is contrary to my personal beliefs.

Free stuff:
4 freebies, one for each day of the show will be available to anyone who asks (first 50 people) at my table. Previews available soon!

Sketches (on site only):
I will be doing a very, very limited number of sketches at the show. Please, be sure to bring a reference image for me or choose from the selection of images I will bring with me. Single character head shots only, please! Price to be determined closer to convention time. Sketch prices will also be posted at the table. Sorry, for this show I cannot give away free sketches.

My Official Star Wars Celebration V Print

When I was invited to produce a limited edition print for Star Wars Celebration V (being held in Orlando, FL Aug 12 - 15) I felt like a little kid. I was so excited. I knew exactly what I wanted to do. A very clean and simple piece using Boba Fett. BIG thanks to TK409.com for being the model! :D

The Star Wars Official Site decided to use the print art on their home page...boy was I excited and honored to see that! Wow! I screengrabbed that quickly! ;)

The prints, limited to 250, will be priced at a very reasonable $35! So, come on by Artists Alley say hello and purchase a poster or two! :D I'm also going to have limited numbers of free bits and bobs at my table.

Transition!

Hello, everyone!

I wanted to let everyone...anyone...know that Nerf-Herders-Anonymous will be in transition over the next 6 months. I'd like to make it easier to follow and done through the blog I think I can do that. It will take time, which I don't have very much of.

I am in desperate need of updating the site...for that I apologize. As it turns out I became very heavily involved with my work as an illustrator and haven't had the time to devote to updating since last year. I will however do little bits at a time until it's all finished...well, transitioned.

Please, bear with me as I make this change and please, keep sending along information to me....yes, even you actors! ;) I haven't given up!

I am trying to keep track of little things by updating on Twitter ( @nerfherdanon) so please follow me there to find out the latest refs and actor happenings. As info comes in I am at least able to add a 140 character snippet of info. Everything helps.

Dave Stevens (1955 - 2008)

Very sad day, artist Dave Stevens (Rocketeer and many other comics) has passed away after battling leukemia (semi-privately) for the last few years.
Any fan of Bettie Page had to have been a fan of Dave Stevens.
I met him through his ex-wife Brinke Stevens (I did work for her back in the early 90s) at a Comic Con waaay back and had him sign a copy of the Rocketeer. Brinke was the model for most of his Bettie Page artwork and Dave's Rocketeer was based on his and Brinke's relationship. I didn't know him personally but have to thank Brinke for showing me his fantastic art and making me a fan.

I LOVE when I get these sorts of emails, they are extremely rare for my site only because most people see exactly what I'm doing (it really is quite obvious, even to non-fans) and have no reason to take misinformed pot shots at the site or me personally.

I originally had a page on my site related to the Wilhelm Scream, it listed every movie and TV show I'd watched and found the WS, I also added the director and the sound man who inserted the now classic cult sound bite. It was called to my attention by none other than Steve Lee that he'd had his own list and site going with all the films and shows with the WS...many of which he'd inserted himself...Hollywood Lost and Found. Like THX and Indiana Jones I added Wilhelm Scream references into my reference database, just for fun AND because the man who rejuvenated Sheb Wooley's "scream", Ben Burtt, had such a large involvment with the Star Wars franchise. Additionally, I felt that it would be great to get the sound a little more attention as it's fun to listen for! :D

you're an idiot... just because a movie uses the "Wilhelm scream" doesn't mean it's referencing Star Wars, that's the dumbest fucking thing i've ever seen....yeah a movie uses the wilhelm scream, they MUST be referencing Star Wars... here's a newsflash buddy, STAR WARS WASNT THE FIRST MOVIE TO USE THE WILHELM SCREAM!The first movie was Distant Drums. So maybe you should change your list to read that every movie using the Wilhelm scream is actually referencing Distant Drums...including Star Wars.

This is what happens when one doesn't have a clue about the facts and history of a site or anything else. :P

Topps Heroes Preview Sheet!

Topps/NBC/Universal released the Seson One Trading Cards preview sheet (see above)

And, what a nice way to start the day, I found out that one of my cards was included on the Preview Sheet!

My guess at this time for a release date is sometime in October. I heard somewhere that October 15th was the latest but one can never be too sure.

Hello!

Lucky doesn't begin to describe how I feel right now. After 30 years it finally happened.

As an artist and a HUGE Star Wars fan it couldn't have been a nicer time to have been invited to participate in an artistic event for Topps' 30th Anniversary of Star Wars collector's card series coming out around mid-June.

I will be drawing 76 sketch cards for the upcoming set. Samples of which, once approved by Lucasfilm, will be posted here (links) for your perusal.

I just received my cards within the last 30 minutes so it will take a little time to get the ball rolling, the scans made, the approvals had and then back here.

If any of you have any questions feel free to ask me and I will answer to the best of my abilities. Since I am also working on two other card sets and am still slowly updating Nerf-Herders-Anonymous.net right now please forgive any delays that might be had in replying.

Anyone who was a fan of the Mary Tyler Moore Show, Lou Grant, Elf and of course the Star Wars Radio Drama Series would recognize Edward Asner (voice of Jabba the Hutt in the radio dramas).

Fans of Mr. Asner were delighted to see him in the pilot of Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip airing now HERE. Eight more episodes of Studio 60 will be streamed by NBC as well as John Lithgow's (voice of Yoda in the radio dramas) new series Twenty Good Years.

Asner plays Mr. White, an executive at NBS, about half way through the 46 minute pilot. I don't know if he will be playing the exec on a regular basis but there he is.

If the pilot is any indication of the quality of the following series' episodes then it should be quite popular. It's quite good.

Hey there,

Small break to make you aware of a radio program based on the posters of Toulouse Lautrec called The Posters of Montmartre.
Dermot Crowley (General Krix Madine - ROTJ) has a role as George Footit, an aging circus performer with an alcohol problem.

If you've never seen/heard Crowley (said Crow-lee) in anything other than Return of the Jedi then you will be a tad surprised at hearing him as Footit. I was.

The radio series on BBC 7 is played in 5 parts and plays each day. Two parts have already been broadcast.

In the interest of time, I'm cutting and pasting my updates to the site here.

I have managed to make updates to the site on a semi-regular basis at least. A lot of life moving along now (good) so that means a little less time on the site. I try to make them good when I do make them. I have several actors that I'm in the middle of adding, which has been a long time in coming.

September marks the beginning of my busy season as an artist. This year a little more so due to adding commercial efforts to my regular portrait schedule.

Denis Lawson (Wedge Antilles - OT) - Lawson is set to star in an upcoming BBC TV production of Jekyll (as in Jekyll and Hyde), he will play Dr. Jackman's oldest friend. Jekyll will air on BBC ONE next year (2007) and is sure to be a darker version than previous incarnations.

I found out through a friend that Ms. Adeal Crooms, who provided the voice for Wicket in Return of the Jedi had died in 2003. Her daughter was surprised to find that anyone knew who her mother was and said that she thought her mother would have been delighted to know there were people out there who were interested in her career.

Johnny Weissmuller, Jr. died on July 27, 2006 from a long battle with terminal cancer. People may recognize the name because his father Johnny Weissmuller, Sr. was a champion swimmer (as Jr. was) and the man who played Tarzan.

I read the Star Wars Insider #89 online supplement yesterday and to my surprise was an article by friend Joe Corroney about the illustrations he did for Abel Pena's story. . Check it out here.
Yep, Corroney's Guri was based on me. Totally cool to be rendered by one of my favorite artists and to be placed in the SW universe with Prince Xixor and BoShek no less! AH!

Friend, Milton Soares Jr., linked me up to his fan film after reading the above article. Here's the link, Shadows of the Empire - Fan Film. It's pretty good and fun to see the book in action figure form! It takes a long while to download but I think you'll enjoy.

I'm sorry to say that another Star Wars alum has passed away. Johnny Weissmuller, Jr. passed away on July 27, 2006 after a long and hard battle with terminal cancer.

Details are few at this time. This information was passed to me from Geoff who runs Mr. Weissmuller Sr.'s official site.

The Origin of Anakin

Did you ever wonder where George Lucas came up with the name Anakin? Look no further than director Ken Annakin.

Annakin, who will turn 92 in August, has directed a host of films, the most recent was Ghengis Khan, but he is probably best known for The Longest Day and The Battle of the Bulge.
The short of itm as Annakin himself tells, is when George Lucas was filming Star Wars in 1976 at Pinewood Studios he told Alec Guinness that he was looking for a name. Guinness suggested the name Annakin, which he'd seen on Ken Annakin's office door earlier. Obviously it stuck...missing one 'n'.
The name is of Russian origin but Annakin was born in Yorkshire, UK.

Interesting to note that one of Annakin's films, The Pirate Movie, has two Star Wars references...
The first is from a song in the film based on the Pirates of Penzance's Major Modern General, it is sung by Stanley (Kerr):

I'm very sorry to say that Mr. Condren passed away at 3:05 pm (London time) today, July 19.
His niece emailed me this morning to let me know and to thank everyone for the support. The London Stunt School also wanted to thank everyone for their kindness, the letters of encouragement did lift Mr. Condren's spirits.
I'm sure Mr. Condren was surprised by the outpouring of support the Star Wars fans sent his way.
I now implore all of you to take a little bit of time, get out your extra postage and send your condolences to his family and London Stunt School where he had been teaching for years.
Ms. Boyd, Mr. Condren's niece, let me know just now that the funeral will be on Wednesday, July 26, 2006 and anyone who would like to send their condolences, wishes or anything else can send it to either one of these addresses (preferrably the latter):

While I know very little of his personal life I can give you a little bit of information about his professional life.

Tim Condren always had an interest in the physical and made a good career being physical over the last 40 or so years.Condren worked with legends such as Roger Moore, Charles Bronson, Sean Connery, Richard Burton, Clint Eastwood, Gene Hackman and Robert Mitchum to name but a few, and created stunt work for many popular movies including several Bond films, Star Wars, Superman I & II, Labyrinth, Willow and others. He also played a smattering of on-camera roles, one of which was one of the original Stormtroopers for Star Wars.

His very first stunt work in film was in the 1962 David Lean film Lawrence of Arabia (my favorite film) Sir Alec Guinness (Obi-Wan Kenobi) was also in this film.

Condren's work took him to the US, Australia and to other film locations around the world and also had him gainfully employed in the UK (his home) for all of his adult life.

Condren was experienced in archery and horses and incorporated those skills into his stunt work, generally both together. While in the US he made several westerns (I'm still working on finding which films these were), usually involving horse work, many times playing an Indian (Apache and Sioux, of course), all of which were filmed here in Southern California or in Arizona. He also participated in several rodeos as a trick rider/guest performer. I believe that he did the same in Australia too.
Many years ago Condren made appearances in circuses (he had a strong acrobatic background) and also made good of his fencing and sword-fighting skills by working the show at the Tower of London (The White Tower) as a Knight...these shows are still presented now and are held in August.

Condren spent many of these past years teaching at the London Stunt School with Alasdair Monteith and others preparing scores of young stunt hopefuls for film, TV and other productions. This was his last position before his death and I do believe that he was teaching up until he became ill.

I don't know how he died (what he died of) but I do know that his family and friends were there to support him through all of it and that he was glad to hear from fans he no doubt had little idea existed until 3 days ago.

Hi there.

While I'll be a little late to Comic-Con this year, only going Fri - Sun. I will, with hope of course, be bringing you a few photos from the event. I really do say "hope" because inevitably I get caught up in talking to people and don't get as many photos of people/things I want. We'll see what this year brings.

I must be busy because I could have sworn that the update I brought you last time was just last week but I see that it's from June 26!
Summer's generally seem to move so slowly even when I'm working but for whatever reason this one is blazing a trail.

As you know from my two previous blog entries Tim Condren (Stormtrooper in ANH) has fallen ill and has been in a hospital in London since Sunday. I'm told I'll be updated if anything changes.

Tim Condren - Stormtrooper

I received word just now that Mr. Condren is not getting any better but is fighting hard.

His niece and the head coach/director of the London Stunt School send their sincerest thanks and have said that the email letters have lifted his spirits so please, keep them coming.

Albin Johnson, founder of the 501st Legion, will be inducting Mr. Condren into the 501st as an honorary member.

The Heat is On

I always come closer to understanding what Tatooine, er Tunisia, was/is like during their hot months.

The air quality is pretty poor today too, of course normally it's not wonderful during the summer but there is a huge fire not far from here that is spreading smoke all over the valley.

It's a little warm outside today.
It was two degrees cooler yesterday...not that it matters much at those temps. I'd gone out yesterday to run some errands and one of the stores I visited had a power issue the day before and their A/C compressor had gone out, it was nearly as hot in the store as it was outside and much more humid...yuk.

Sure is pleasant at 3am though.

Last year we had the same record heat only over the Comic Con weekend, thankfully we left here to go there. San Diego was, at 75°, 43° cooler and it's only 2 ½ hours away. It would be nice if it weren't so hot for the drive to San Diego this year. We'll cross our fingers.

A Little About Lucy Wilson

Lucy Autrey Wilson added a little "walla" to Star Wars (1977) for the Cantina scene. But she's also been the longest employed person at Lucasfilm (besides The Flanneled One himself) at 32 years...and counting.

I found this article that speaks a little of Ms. Wilson and her career but also mentions the book Cinema By The Bay (by Sheerly Avni) that was recently published by George Lucas Books where Ms. Wilson is now the director of publishing.

Maul turns Vampire

Did anyone see this? I totally missed it.

Ray Park who was the physical presence of Darth Maul in The Phantom Menace plays twin vampires in Slayer. The production was a remake and update of the cheesy 80's film Hawk the Slayer and premiered on the Sci-Fi channel on July 8th.

John Terry played the original Hawk, if anyone remember the poster he's dressed a bit like Han Solo.
Casper Van Dien (Starship Troopers) and Lynda Carter (Wonder Woman) also starred.

Park's also playing a security guard in the film Fanboys.

R2D2 is selling his Rolls Royce

You have the chance to bid on Kenny "R2D2" Baker's 1982 Blue Corniche with only 63,000 miles driven. 1982 was the last year that the Corniche was made as a coupe (coupé if you like), only the convertible was available after 1982.
They expect the auction to yield about £11,000 - £13,000 ($20,000 - $24,000) which really is a bargain. Oh no...sorry, this just popped in the grey matter. "Excuse me, sir, but that R2 unit is in prime condition. A real bargain" (there's no hope for me *sigh*)

Uncle Owen and The Operative

Two nights ago I went to see a film that I'd wanted to see for a while, Kinky Boots.

The film stars Star Wars prequel trilogy actor Joel Edgerton (Uncle Owen) and Serenity's "The Operative" *Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Charlie Price (Edgerton) grows up under the loving guidance of his father, a successful, third generation shoe manufacturer in provincial Northampton, who intends for Charlie to take over his position as head of the factory. But Charlie has different aspirations and wants to escape the small-town life so he moves to London with his girlfriend. Then the unthinkable happens, his father dies. The factory, by this time, is ailing and Charlie has to find a solution in order to save the jobs of his father's loyal employees and to reluctantly preserve (at first) his legacy. By a small twist of fate Charlie, in a drunken state, meets Lola (Ejiofor), a drag queen, and becomes inspired to make a positive and bold change for his factory.

Australian Edgerton gives a fine performance as Charlie Price who manages to convince as a Midlander and has some sweet scenes, but it is Ejiofor that absolutely steals this show head-to-toe. More so because Lola is larger than life but delightfully lacking the over-the-top caricatures so often seen in other films. Ejiofor offers an intelligent guilelessness, a subtle warmth and reality (humanity in other words) to the diva very much like Terence Stamp's award-winning performance as Ralph/Bernadette Bassenger in The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert.

Even though this film is part of the typical British little-guy-against-the-odds genre it is set apart by one glittering special performance and is worth the effort to see for that alone.

To see this alone would be shorting Ejiofor his due as an actor with an exceedingly large range. Check out his **performances in Dirty Pretty Things, Amistad, Serenity, Four Brothers, Love Actually, She Hate Me, Melinda and Melinda (clearly the best thing about this film) and you'll see what I mean.

Discovery Health Channel

Three years ago I was part of a program called Babies: Special Delivery which was filmed by Discovery Health Channel. It's a series that focused on women with high risk pregnancies.

The small crew filmed the last week of the 18 days I spent in the labor & delivery section of the maternity ward at DRMC in Palm Springs.

The show only touches on what it was like at the end but doesn't even begin to tell the story of the worst summer of my life up to that point. What you will see on the video is me trying the best I could to be upbeat under the circumstances.

If you're brave enough to watch, don't worry they do NOT show any private areas but there is some intensity (it's got a PG rating), then please tune in on July 25, 2006.

At this point Portman is just a strong possibility for the role of Rosa. We'll know by mid-July if the project will move forward and if Portman will indeed be attached.
Portman was also named as a runner up in the World's Sexiest Vegetarian poll held annually by PETA online. Prince & Christen Bell were at the top.

I'm truly saddened to report that one half of the team that brought us that first Star Wars poster back in 1977 is gone. Tim Hildebrandt died yesterday from complications of diabetes. He was 67 years old.

The Hildebrandt's were one of my first inspirations when it came to drawing, I was particularly smitten with their use of color, placement of their subjects and that they were just cool guys who loved what they did and loved to share.

I had met them, as so many others did, on several occasions many years ago at conventions in Los Angeles. It was just neat to be around them and listen to anything they said.Here is a bio and the site of the brothers Hildebrandt. Some Star Wars art from their site.

A Google search will give you a world of wonderful art at your fingertips and you can marvel at their enormous talent.

I hope that as Star Wars fans we can make an effort to send Greg Hildebrandt our best at this time. click on "Tim Hildebrandt" above to see where to write.

So sorry to have to add this sort of blog entry.
Rest in Peace, Mr. Hildebrandt, you'll be missed.

Ian McDiarmid - Tony Award Winner!

Tonight was a very special one for actor Ian McDiarmid (Palpy himself) he won a Tony Award (outstanding performances in Broadway plays). The award was for Best Featured Actor in a Play for his role as Teddy in Faith Healer.

Here's the pic of him accepting his Tony.
After his speech he let out a "Fantastic!!" hehe

He played opposite Ralph Fiennes (Frank Hardy, the Faith Healer) and Cherry Jones in the much talked about play about a faith healer whose powers were only intermittent, McDiarmid played Teddy, Frank Hardy's manager.

"Ladies and gentlemen, I got on a plane from London just under two short months ago, and I am astonished to be standing before so many of you here tonight.
It gives me a chance to pay tribute my distinguished acting colleagues, Ralph Fiennes, Cherry Jones, great artists both, and my very good friend, the director Jonathan Kent. He enabled us to give life to one of the most emotionally intricate and musically perfect pieces of writing for the stage in the English language, written, unsurprisingly, by an Irishman, Brian Friel.

Brian Friel's Faith Healer had its debut on Broadway over 20 years ago and was not a success. I'm really proud to be associated with this triumphant return and restoration. These are two words that occur in the play regularly and there's one other word that my character uses, that perhaps I should mention. He's a London show business manager and therefore totally unreliable and prone to wild exaggeration. But it fits the occasion, and it's the way I feel tonight: FANTASTIC!

In April an actor named John Ghavam died of liver failure in Northampton, UK. This actor had played an Ewok in Return of the Jedi and was credited as John Gavam.

One of the most astonishing things about Mr. Ghavam was an accident he'd had in 2002. He had awoken very early (dark) one morning to get a glass of water, in the process he slipped and fell. He managed to pick himself up, get his water and go back to bed. He got up later that morning and drove to Darlington's Civic Theatre, where he was starring in a stage production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

His cast mates noticed how much pain he was in and called a doctor. After a short exam the doctor determined that Ghavam has broken his collar bone which is exceedingly painful.

I'm currently trying to find a little more information on him to share with you.
I'll let you know when/if I receive such info.

EDIT: When this article was written in June of 2006, there was only a hair of information that was released, that info stated that he died in May. It was only in 2007 that we learned the real date of his death being April 4 and the true circumstances surrounding his death. Why did it take so long? I don't know if we'll ever know the answer to that.

While ROTS did not win for best picture...Hayden Christensen won the MTV Movie Awards' Golden Bucket of Popcorn award last night for Best Movie Villain in his role as Darth Vader in ROTS. This is in stark contrast to his awards (Razzies) for his previous Star Wars films.

Samuel L. Jackson took the stage as a presenter in a SoaP t-shirt.Jackson was also honored by Spike Lee, who won the Silver Bucket of Excellence award for his film Do The Right Thing. The award is given out each year to past films which still remain relevant today.

It is HOT today. It's not even noon and the temp is 117°, this is fairly unusual for this time of year here. These temps don't get this hot until the dead of summer (they don't call it that for nothin'!).
I had planned on going out this afternoon but I might wait until later to run my errands.

In VERY light local news:
I passed our church/school this past Thursday and saw a group of reporters, being kept at bay, hanging out near the school entrance and wondered what was happening. Our church has been in the news before (former president Ford, among others, attend) but I did wonder what this was about since it was not just the local news people this time.

I then get an email from my mother-in-law mentioning our church and Prince Andrew...I'm confused and think that my m-i-l has confused our church with the one in Scotland that the royals have been associated with (it is our sister church). So I ask her if she's got an article.

Turns out that it's not Prince Andrew but Prince Albert (of Monaco - the family has history here). Prince Albert had a daughter out-of-wedlock 14 years ago, which was only revealed in the last couple of years..or last year (I didn't follow this too closely). Journalists have been trying to locate the child since the word got out. Three days ago I wondered if they would find her and what a scene it would no doubt be once they did.

Was I right. They did locate her, here. It's been a media circus and the news has spread so quickly around the globe it's amazing. She's been attending our church/school for several years (an honor student), and many people already knew her (just not her lineage), she will be graduating in a week.

Articles abound from everywhere...Australia, UK, Canada, France, New Zealand, China, Malaysia, India, Russia, Dominican Republic, Bahrain, Norway, Japan, Netherlands, Brazil, Chile...you name it. Plus every state in the US. :P

While it is sort of "neat" that they've taken an interest, I wonder why it's so important. We have a lot of celebrities here in the valley, many of them within walking distance of my home (I'm surrounded by them :P) and it's sort of business as usual here when they're out and about, but the 14 year old daughter of a Prince?Should make church going an interesting experience in the future.

bleh.

Ah well.

~~Three hours later...The temp has dropped down to a respectable 112° :P gee, I'm so relieved. Apparently I've wasted enough time to push myself to the errands. So...there it is.

Ed Begley Jr. (Boba Fett - ROTJ Radio Drama) will reprise his role in a production of Romance at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles. He plays the attorney in the play that is put on by LA Theatre Works which was the production company that made the Star Wars radio dramas. The play starts on April 5, 2006.

Richard Bonehill (Various characters - OT) came in 6th at the National (Fencing) Championships in Men's Sabre, 25th in Men's Foil, 24th in Men's Epee and 3rd at Men's Champion at Arms.

Mark Capri (Warrant Officer M'Kae - ESB) is voicing a character for a TV program/series with Loni Anderson and Tori Spelling called, Notorious. He will voice the father of Tori Spelling.

The show is about Tori, in a way, it is based on her life except with more unusual twists - it's a comedy. Capri voices Tori's father, in a sort of "Charlie's Angels" Charlie sort of way, so you'll only hear him but never see him.
Also, here's a review of Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure in which Capri currently stars as Sherlock Holmes.

Oliver Ford Davies (Sio Bibble - PT) was cast as the lead in the stage production Larkin With Women at the Orange Tree Theatre in London (Richmond), UK. Davies played the famous post-war writer, Philip Larkin. The play is about the writer, Larkin, and the three women who dominated his life for 30 years.

The play opened on March 29, 2006 for a single performance.

My friend TEA and I used to gauge when a film came out (or our personal history) by Star Wars and its sequels. We stopped doing that a few years after Jedi came out but we fondly remember that B SW or A SW was a part of our lives for quite a while.

Henrik Ibsen and Star Wars

Another commemoration of sorts, this time marking the death of a noted writer...not the birth as for Arthur Conan Doyle.

Yesterday marked the 100th anniversary of the death (May 23, 1906) of Henrik Ibsen, a very talented playwright who was very much ahead of his time (considered by some to be the Godfather of feminism) in writing about Victorian morals and other social issues. His writing was the source of much controversy in his earlier years and especially in his native Norway. He moved from Norway and spent thirty years living elsewhere and only returned to live out the remainder of his life.

When we read Ibsen now it is hard for us to imagine, in our present climate, that the words would elicit so much passion. But, the Victorian era, as prosperous as it was (the height of British industrial), had strict moral standards. For example, it was considered improper to mention the word "leg"... instead the word "limb" was used.

A short description of the plays (except for An Enemy of the People, no time...but I did find a link) and their Star Wars actor connections, no inter actor connections, there weren't any to list....oh, and the order of plays is chronological (year written) and all are stage productions except where noted:

Peer Gynt (1867)
I first knew of Peer Gynt as a child through Edvard Grieg's music compositions and from reading the funny name on the albums my mother had.

I found later that Grieg, like Ibsen a Norwegian, had been asked by Ibsen to create some incidental music (small pieces) for a play called Peer Gynt, Grieg happily complied. Grieg wanted to compose more though and ended up creating what is arguably his best known work and rather haunting...much as the play became one of Ibsen's best known works.

Peer Gynt is the son of a rich man who drank to much and then lost his fortune and died leaving his wife and son in poverty. Gynt daydreams about reversing the fortune of the family but basically can't stop boasting and dreaming enough to really do anything about it. Going so far as to get drunk and kidnap a bride, Solveig (who used to be his girl), from her own wedding. But flees before he can be caught and punished and is basically banished from the parish in which he and his mother lived.

Gynt sets up house in a cabin in the woods and Solveig comes to live with him. But he leaves her and goes on a journey where he pretends he's different people in many different adventures, including a stay at a Cairo madhouse where he's regarded as an emperor. After years and years of adventures under various guises he decides to return home.

His journey home is not without it's own adventure as he meets a guy who wants his corpse so he can find where dreams come from, the ship is wrecked and he meets Death who tells him that he shall basically burn in hell unless he can prove he was ever himself during his lifetime. Gynt tries but Death refuses each explanation but Gynt is clever enough to convince Death to give him more time to find proof.

Gynt finally returns home where he is not recognized yet finds Solveig still waiting for him at his cabin, as Death closes in on him Gynt clings on to Solveig and begins to realize that she and this home are what he's wanted all the while.

My explanation could hardly do justice to Peer Gynt but it is my favorite of any of Ibsen's stuff. This one is worth a read as well as listening to Grieg's Peer Gynt suites...very recognizable even if you don't know Grieg...mostly due to their use in cartoons. A Doll's House (1879)
A Doll's House involves Nora who did what was expected of her, she married and had children. But Nora married for money not for love.
er husband falls ill and Nora has to find a way to get money so her husband, Torvald, can recover.

She gets the money which she says is from her father but is really from a secret source, Krogstad (Torvald's underling). Krogstad finds himself in a situation which he feels he may lose his position and tells Nora that she must help him keep his position or he'll reveal her secret.

But when it's obvious that she cannot convince her husband not to dismiss Krogstad she begins to feel helpless and ultimately leaves not only her husband but also her children.<br />

Ghosts (1881)
Ghosts, well...Ibsen, shocked many viewers in the socially/morally strict clime of the Victorian Era by using the word syphilis in his play and for having a woman forsake her socially and religiously driven morals to save herself and her child from a miserable life.

The story revolves around a woman, Mrs. Alving, is married to a philandering man and leaves him within the first year of marriage because she is so miserable.
A priest tells her to do the right thing by going back to her cheating husband and that her love should mend his immoral ways. She goes back but her love changes nothing. He continues his ways and manages to contract the STD and spreads it to his wife (Mrs. Alving) and, unknowingly, to his son, Oswald.

In order to protect her son from the atmosphere at home and the truths therein she sends him off to school (boarding) in hopes of saving him a tormented childhood. Mrs. Alving ultimately leaves her husband in order to save herself.

Wild Duck (1884)
Gregers Werle is one-man truth-seeking crusader who returns from a 15 year self-imposed exile to find that his best friend Hjalmar is in a marriage that was built on lies.

Hjalmar's marriage to Gina was arranged, though Hjalmar doesn't know this. Gregers learns that Gina was the one time maid and mistress of his own father and in order to conceal the truth, keep the pregnancy "legitimate" and save his own name he arranges the marriage between Gina and Hjalmar. Hjalmar believes the child, Hedvig, to be his own and everyone, including Gina are happy.

Gregers believes it's his duty to free Hjalmar of his life built on lies and works diligently to tear down the facade through what he truly believes is a selfless act. He has given no thought at all to the consequences of what he feels he must do and an entire family is destroyed because of Gregers quest for truth.

While it's easy to like Gregers despite his crusade one has to feel the tragedy in his mission as well. Very interesting story that goes against Ibsen's usual truth is sacred mantra.

Hedda Gabler (1890)
Hedda Gabler is the hard-to-please daughter of a well-known general who marries out of desperation. Instead of leaving the situation, which she feels she cannot do, unlike many of Ibsen's previous characters, she stays. And in her frustration and misery decides to go at her life and others in a mean-spirited way causing destruction.

She undermines her husband, burns the creative project (manuscript) of a family friend who has confided in her that he is a failure and wants to kill himself, she nonchalantly says go for it...which he eventually does. She also refuses to acknowledge her pregnancy, which is more and more evident as the play progresses. In the end, and quite abruptly, Hedda kills herself.

The Master Builder (1892)
The Master Builder was one of Ibsen's most mature plays and was written when he was 64, two years after a platonic affair with a woman of 18.
Halvard Solness is a successful middle-aged builder in a loveless marriage to a cold but dutiful wife. He's afraid that his success will come to an end when someone younger comes to take over his position. He starts to flirt with his assistant Ragnar Brovik's fianc?e, Kaia (Kaja) and does everything to keep her in the office while keeping his assistant from getting promoted, but another young woman, Hilde, enters the picture and he directs his energy towards her.
There is an immediate chemistry, a certain tension, that is skirted through flirtation while he bares his soul to the young admiring woman who doesn't quite understand his problems but makes him feel like a hero.

After a chat with Solness' wife Hilde decides she needs to leave but Solness wants to keep her with him, near him and will do anything to keep her there. So he asks her what she wants and she tells him she'd like a castle. She wants her Master Builder to create a castle for her. Which he sets out to do.

In the middle of building Hilde convinces Solness to climb upon the scaffolding to regain a lost feeling of worth and satisfaction he once had in building things for people. He does this thing for her and stands on the scaffolding enjoying the moment to cheers from onlookers...then he slips and falls.

Paul Gleason (1939 - 2006)

Actor Paul Gleason died Saturday (May 27, 2006) at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank of the rare lung cancer Mesothelioma. I am familiar with this disease because my father's best friend died from it in 2002. Gleason and my father's friend had similar circumstances while in their teens and twenties as both of them worked with/had close contact with their fathers who worked construction in some form or another, which dealt with asbestos...the root of Mesothelioma.

Gleason was born on May 4, 1939 in Jersey City, NY but raised in Miami, Florida. He was a man of many talents starting with sports. Gleason played football, basketball and baseball at Florida State University where, according to Johnny Holliday's book Johnny Holliday from Rock to Jock, was nicknamed "Bags" because his teammates swore that he wore the same athletic supporter for the entire 4 years at FSU. He graduated in 1966.

During the 50s Gleason played Triple A level baseball with the Cleveland Indians and Boston Red Sox farm teams. He loved to play the game but he remained a lifelong fan of baseball and was frequently seen in the Red Sox clubhouse or out on the field during batting practice.

I vaguely recall that he played in at least a few Hollywood Stars Nights (not the minor league Stars of Gilmore field) at Dodger Stadium over the years. The "Hollywood Stars" played against the big leaguers once each year during the season, before a regular game, for charity...many teams have similar types of games once or twice a year.

Gleason got the urge to act while watching Splendor in the Grass (1961) with good friend, and father of the Beat Generation, Jack Kerouac (widely known for his novel On The Road). He then traveled to New York where he studied under Lee Strasburg at the Actors Studio and on to do many theatre productions (including the revival of The Front Page (1972), with John Lithgow), film and TV productions over the following 40 odd years.

For many people Gleason will forever remembered for his role as Principal Richard "Dick" Vernon in the now classic 1985 John Hughes film The Breakfast Club..."Mess with the bull you get the horns". Which totally overshadowed his role as **Jeremitt Towani in Ewoks: The Battle for Endor released that same year. For others Gleason was etched into the brains as the corporate spy, Clarence Beeks, in Trading Places (1983) with Eddie Murphy and Dan Aykroyd..."Back off or I'll rip out your eyes and piss on your brain!"

Gleason also wrote poetry and published a book called Uleta Blues & Haikus - Songs, Poesy, Sketches which was filled with his collected writings on growing up in America, poetry, drawings, humorous and satirical tales involving baseball, films, Hollywood, his friend Jack Kerouac, time travel and baseball legend Ted Williams

He was once married to Monty Hall's daughter Joanna Hall but had been married to Susan Gleason until his death on Saturday. He is survived by his wife, a son, a daughter and a granddaughter.

I have been an admirer of the Sherlock Holmes saga since I can remember. Never obsessive or fanatic but simply enjoying each incarnation of Holmes that has come along.

Doyle's original creations I find the most intriguing simply because they are created BY him, the way he felt they needed to be. But I have found just as much enjoyment in authors/directors that have given life to the fictional detective beyond the near 60 original stories by Doyle.

In honor of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's 147th birthday I present to you the Holmes/Star Wars connection. These 44 SW actors have been involved in Sherlock Holmes projects over the years in stage, radio, film or other media. I made a couple of random comments here and there

Lee is always fun to watch, no matter the role.

This film is totally silly but worth watching. John Cleese (Fawlty Towers) wrote this Holmes parody and starred as Arthur Sherlock Holmes. Basically the grandsons of Professor Moriarty, Dr. Watson and Holmes play out a detective farce. Holmes is a bungling drug-addict, Watson is an idiot and Moriarty is still the villain. It's worth it just for Cleese alone but the movie is funny all around considering it's "no budget" budget and silliness.

Clancy Brown (voice of Montross - Bounty Hunter) will be appearing again on Lost . When he appeared on the show before (ep: One of Them) he played a character named Joe Inman, this time he's playing Kelvin Inman, hm. The episode, called Live Together, Die Alone will air on May 24, 2006.
Also, there is a trailer now online for the film Pathfinder (Brown plays Gunnar, the Viking Chieftan) alongside LOTR: Two Towers and LOTR: Return of the King star Karl Urban. The trailer is HERE. There's also a cool pic of Brown as Gunnar HERE .

Today it was announced that our dear Flanneled One will be inducted into the Toy Industry Hall of Fame for 2007.

Excerpts:
"From the time it premiered in 1977, George Lucas' "Star Wars" saga took the world by storm and created a cultural phenomenon that has touched generations of kids with its epic battles and legendary characters. In addition to winning eight Academy Awards, the "Star Wars" movies set new standards for sophistication in film visuals and sound, and revolutionized the toy industry at the same time. The first "Star Wars" film inspired Kenner Products' creation of the 3-3/4-inch action figure scale, which remains an industry standard today. Designed, manufactured and marketed by Hasbro, Inc. since its purchase of Kenner in 1991, "Star Wars" toys and games are one of the best-selling toy lines in the industry's history."

"The ceremony inducting Lucas will take place as part of the seventh annual T.O.T.Y. (Toy Of The Year) Awards event, set for the evening of Saturday, February 10, 2007, in New York City at the Marriott Marquis Times Square. Lucas, the 50th Hall of Fame inductee, will be present to accept the honor in person."

Ok, so it's not really a site update yet. Still waiting for everything to settle with my site, which doesn't seem close.

I do, however, have a few notes I'd like to share.
This time NOT in alphabetical order...I know...I live dangerously. :P

Ewan McGregor (Obi-Wan Kenobi - PT) may star in the film I, Lucifer with newly chosen Bond man Daniel Craig.
McGregor has also been chosen to play a role in a new film by Woody Allen (no title yet). Filming begins in London in mid-July.

Oliver Ford Davies - (Sio Bibble - PT) Just a note: I watched him in an episode of British mystery, Rosemary & Thyme called Enter Two Gardeners over the weekend. Nice episode. I almost didn't recognize him at first.

Paul Hecht (Emperor Palpatine - Star Wars: Return of the Jedi Radio Drama) is starring with Siân Phillips (Queen Charal - Ewoks: Battle for Endor) in the Bay Street Theatre's production of Quartet. The Bay Street Theatre is in Baltimore, MD. Quartet runs through June 4, 2006.

Bai Ling - (Senator Bana Breemu - ROTS - cut) will be one of the hosts for a new program on E! Entertainment television called Stranded with a Star. She's also doing a voice characterization for the new video game Scarface: The World is Yours.

Jay Laga'aia - may make an appearance at the Logie Awards because the show he has been involved with for many years, Play School, is being inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia Organa - OT) Trivia: Fisher was once considered for the role of Betty Rizzo in the film production of Grease. That role would go to Stockard Channing who played Abbey Bartlet on West Wing. Side note: Grease, way back, was the third highest grossing film of all time after Jaws and Star Wars.

Adam Arkin (Fixer - Star Wars: A New Hope Radio Drama) - will star in Murder on Pleasant Drive on May 8 on Lifetime. He plays a creepy, maybe murderous, business man.
He's also been cast in Graduation.

The weather here has been spectacular, in the 80s all week...I'm loving it. I'll find myself staring at the gorgeous mountain backdrop to the left of my work area...talk about distraction.

I finished the Serenity project and will try to finish the Rancor illustration in the next week or so.

On to the update...

~~Brian Blessed (Boss Nass - PT) will narrate the new expansion for the Rome: Total Wars video game, the expansion's called Alexander. Should be released later this year.

~~Samuel L. Jackson (Mace Windu - PT) In addition to the eagerly awaited, already-of-cult-status Snakes on a Plane Jackson will appear in 1408, Black Snake Moan, Home of the Brave, Resurrecting the Champ and of course "Farce" Farce of the Penguins.Proving once more that he's still the most prolific film superstar out there.

~~Michael Kingma. (General Tarfful - ROTS) Former NBL player and Wookiee, will be playing for the QABL (Queensland Australian Basketball League) in the upcoming season. He's spent the last 2 years playing in Europe and represented the Dutch National Team in 2005.

~~John Lithgow (voice of Yoda in ROTJ Radio Drama) has been cast as a ruthless Hollywood director in the upcoming film version of the Broadway hit Dreamgirls. The film is set for a Christmas 2006 release.

~~Patty Maloney (Lumpy - SWHS) recently had a role on the hit series My Name is Earl in the episode Teacher Earl. Besides her one-woman show we've not seen too much of Ms. Maloney...cool to see here there.

~~Natalie Portman (Padmé Amidala - PT) starred in two Japanese Lux (shampoo) commercials. If you haven't seen them check them out.

~~Rachel Reenstra (Aayla Secura in Battlefront II and voice work for Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds and Star Wars: X-Wing Alliance) has been chosen to host the upcoming Animal Planet series Ms. Adventure which follows Ms. Reenstra around the animal world searching for clue to human behavior.See her winning audition tape here

~~David Warner (Grand Gen. Brashin - Star Wars: Force Commander) will star as a corrupt priest in and ITV (UK) production called Perfect Parents. it's a thriller about a couple who pretend to be Catholic to get their daughter into a good school...of course it all unravels. It will air in 2007 on ITV in the UK.

Obba Babatundé (voice of Lando Calrissian - Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike; Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds) will reprise his role as Billy Flynn in the Musical Chicago starting on April 19, 2006 at the Ambassador Theatre in New York City (Broadway). Babatundé created the role in the National touring company of the production in 1997. For more info go to chicagothemusical.com.

Ed Begley Jr. (Boba Fett - ROTJ Radio Drama) will reprise his role in a production of Romance at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles. He plays the attorney in the play that is put on by LA Theatre Works which was the production company that made the Star Wars radio dramas. The play starts on April 5, 2006.

Richard Bonehill (Various characters - OT) came in 6th at the National (Fencing) Championships in Men's Sabre, 25th in Men's Foil, 24th in Men's Epee and 3rd at Men's Champion at Arms.

Mark Capri (Warrant Officer M'Kae - ESB) is voicing a character for a TV program/series with Loni Anderson and Tori Spelling called, Notorious. He will voice the father of Tori Spelling.The show is about Tori, in a way, it is based on her life except with more unusual twists - it's a comedy. Capri voices Tori's father, in a sort of "Charlie's Angels" Charlie sort of way, so you'll only hear him but never see him.
Also, here's a review of Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure in which Capri currently stars as Sherlock Holmes.

Diahann Carroll (Holographic Wow in SWHS) will be a keynote speaker at the Regards to Broadway luncheon at the Breakers in Palm Beach, FL, sponsored by the JFK Medical Center Foundation on Tuesday April 4, 2006.

Oliver Ford Davies (Sio Bibble - PT) was cast as the lead in the stage production Larkin With Women at the Orange Tree Theatre in London (Richmond), UK. Davies played the famous post-war writer, Philip Larkin. The play is about the writer, Larkin, and the three women who dominated his life for 30 years.The play opened on March 29, 2006 for a single performance.

Pip Miller (Star Destroyer Captain #1 -Captain (hologram on left) who's Star Destroyer gets hit by an asteroid - ROTJ) is starring in The Goat, or Who is Sylvia? at the Seymour Centre in Sydney Australia. This play opens on Wednesday April 5, 2006.The play was highly controversial when it was initially released in 2002 in New York for it's very taboo content.

Ethan Phillips (voices several characters in KOTOR, Galactic Battlegrounds and Force Commander) has joined the cast of Transformers: The Movie. Steven Spielberg is producing this film and Michael Bay is directing. No other cast has been announced but the film is scheduled for release in 2007.

Kevin Pollak (voice characterizations in Ewoks TV series) received a career achievement award from the Method Fest Film Festival 2006 this week, the festival is held in Calabasas, CA each year.

Rebecca Jackson Mendoza (Queen Breha Organa of Alderaan - ROTS) In spite of the mixed reviews the Lord of the Rings Musical is receiving, there seems to be a consensus that Ms. Jackson Mendoza is doing a great job as Galadriel, especially when she belts out the song Wonder.
The musical opened on March 23 in Toronto, Canada.

Truly Wonderful, The Mind of a Child Is

A short personal note this morning.

Today we purchased Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire to watch this evening. My son, three, and I went to see this when it was first released in theaters in mid-November, at his request, just before his third birthday. We only saw it once.

Tonight as we were watching the film we come to the part of the film where the cup participants must face the third, strike that (thanks all), the SECOND challenge which happens at the lake. Before they get started with the task my son keeps saying, "Harry going to get Hermione in the water". Which Harry starts to do.

This surprised both my husband and I that our son remembered this part of the film from only seeing it once, over 4½ months ago.To some of you this may not seem one bit impressive or surprising but how many of us remember our lives before we were three or four? I recall bits and pieces of moments but nothing substantive.

It's true that a child has more focus on things in his little world because the weight of life has not begun to enter the thought processes but I must have assumed their minds move quickly on to the next thing (as often they do), short term memory overriding longer term by a hair.

So nice to be wrong! Neat for me as a parent.

It's All Perfectly Clear

I like to shuffle through the Discovery Channel's website every couple of days. I came across an interesting little article about lasers being tuned, so to speak, to work in a way that makes the solid object it's pointed at "appear" (pun intended) to be invisible enabling the user to see beyond the solid object.

They believe that in the future they won't have to "tune" the lasers in order to do this.

Read the short article.

Pretty cool but a bit scary.

Oliver Ford Davies (Senator Sio Bibble - PT) Until March 25, 2006 Davies will be starring in The Linden Tree at the Orange Tree Theatre in Richmond, UK.
The Linden Tree is set in 1947 during one of Britain's most awful winters. Davies plays History Professor Robert Linden of Barmanley University, and the play revolves around his character and his family. His strength and passion for life and history are contrasted by his wife's (and his family's) unhappiness and his student's indifference to history.

Keisha Castle Hughes (Queen Apilana - ROTS) will star as the Virgin Mary in new Line Cinema's Nativity. Filming starts in Italy sometime in May and the film is set for release in the first week of December.

James Earl Jones (voice of Darth Vader) - The play dates for the one-man show, Thurgood, were announced this week. Westport Playhouse, Westport Connecticut. April 30 - May 14. Tickets go on sale to the public starting on April 19, 2006.

Thurgood is a one-man show about Chief Justice Thurgood Marshall who rose from a child in the backstreets of Baltimore to the Supreme Court of the US.

Jones also spoke at the O'hara Exhibit Hall in Dallas, TX this week about his memoir Voices and Silences.

Clint Bajakian (voice work for over 20 SW related video games and 4 Indiana Jones video games) Bajakian, the Senior Music Supervisor at Sony Computer Entertainment America is speaking today, March 20, and tomorrow, March 21, 2006 at the Game Developer's Conference at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose, CA.

John Lithgow (voice of Yoda in the ESB and ROTJ radio dramas and the audio books) is set to host VOD Kids Series (20 part series) called John Lithgow's Paloozaville. The series will air in June (2006) on select Mag Rack - on demand video magazine- channels.

Lithgow will also star in Twenty Good Years - a TV comedy about two fifty-something year old men who decided to make the most of their lives after reaching epiphanies. NBC comedy pilot Fall 2006.

Christopher Lee (Count Dooku - AOTC/ROTS) Has worked as a soloist on a very recently released CD called The Lord of the Rings: Complete Songs and Poems. From the packaging:

Kevin Pollak (provided voice characterizations in the Ewoks TV series) is joining the cast of an untitled Carol Mendelsohn (CSI writer) produced drama for CBS. The show stars Alan Tudyk (Firefly, Serenity) and is based upon a book about a powerful Washington DC law firm and the lawyers who are at moral odds against their not-so-moral managing partner.

There are certainly more Irish born Star Wars actors in our beloved saga than I mention here but I will focus on these four:
Adrian Dunbar, Fionnula Flanagan, Bronagh Gallagher, Liam Neeson.

Adrian Dunbar (unused Bail Antilles - TPM) was born on August 1, 1958 in Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. Enniskillen is the County Town of Fermanagh, located in the very center of the County and is set on a natural island which separates the Upper and Lower parts of Lough Erne (the river Erne). This is part of the North East section of Ireland, the UK part of Ulster.

Dunbar was the eldest of seven children born to a construction foreman and his very first job was in an Abattoir (pork slaughterhouse) but he was also playing in a band in the evenings. His first gig, when he was all of sixteen, was playing a Fender Jazz Bass guitar for Elvis impersonator Frank Chisholm on the road with Frank's Elvis show. He attended St Josephs College for Catholics in Enniskillen.

Acting came by accident when he took a job as a lighting assistant at a local theatre. One of the actors in the production he was working on took ill and Dunbar replaced him for the performance. He decided to take up acting and headed for the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (this is also where other Star Wars alum studied acting: Peter Cushing, Carrie Fisher, Stephen Hoye, Ewan McGregor and Dominic West) which is located in London, England. Dunbar graduated in 1983.

He is married to Australian actress Anna Nygh and they have one child, a daughter named Madaleine.

Fionnula Flanagan (Catherine Towani in The Ewok Adventures: Caravan of Courage) was born on December 10, 1941 in Dublin, Ireland. Dublin just below the Eastern most portion of Northern Ireland and it is the country's biggest metropolis.

Flanagan studied at Scoil Mhuire Marlborough Street, then Sandymount High School and then to Scoil Caitriona, Dominican College in her native Ireland but she also studied languages at the Universite de Fribourg in Switzerland. Her language studies landed her work as a translator in Italy.

Her training in drama took place at Dublin's prestigious Abbey Theatre, but by 1968 Flanagan decided to move to the US to pursue theatre work in New York City.

Since then she has become very well-known in the US and is a multi-award winning actress. She's received awards for her work from the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films; a DramaLogue Award (Theatre); an Emmy; a Golden Satellite; LA Drama Critics Circle (Theatre) and a SF Critics' Award. She's been nominated for a SAG, a Tony (Theatre) and several other awards.

Flanagan splits her living time between her native Ireland and Los Angeles with her husband, a Los Angeles psychiatrist and addiction medicine specialist, Garrett O'Conner, since 1972.

Bronagh Gallagher (Radiant VII Cruiser Captain Karol in TPM) was born in 1972 in Londonderry (Derry), in Northern Ireland. Londonderry, locally known as Derry (officially as Londonderry City), is located in to the north west of the eastern most part of Northern Ireland at the Foyle River.

Gallagher's introduction to performing came as a child while listening to the music, soul, country and blues, her parents played. She and her brother would dance while the music played. Her love for performing continued in school where she was involved with the school choir and the drama productions at Nazareth House Primary and ST. Mary's College in Creggan. It was these schools that nurtured her love for the performing arts and became catalysts for heading into professional acting. She joined the Oakgrove Theatre Company in Derry while going to school.

It was the film The Commitments which offered Gallagher her first true break, the popularity of this independent film was astounding and since then she's worked as an actress and a singer, first with Andy White - she played drums and vocals, then on her own touring. She still sings and has put out an album, Precious Soul, that has won wide acclaim. The idea for the album when she took a holiday to the US and traveled with her good friends across the country in a motor home.

Gallagher lives in her native Ireland.

On June 17, 2006 The Flanneled One will be inducted into the Science Fiction Hall of Fame in Seattle for Film, Television and Media.

Neil Gaiman has the honor of inducting these four highly deserving individuals.

Clancy Brown (voice of Montross in Star Wars Bounty Hunter) has just started filming The Guardian. Kevin Costner and Ashton Kutcher also star.
The Guardian centers around two men, one a hardened swim instructor for the "A" School (Coast Guard Rescue Swimmers) who lost his crew during a crash, the other a young swim champion who's being trained for the CGRS and vies for the top spot as the best of the best. Clancy Brown plays the Coast Guard Commander.
The film is from Disney and is due to be released in September 2006.

Also:
Clancy Brown and Chopper Bernet (Commander Kirby in SW Rebel Assault II: The Hidden Empire) starred in a film that made the independent film circuit at festivals in 2003 but never had a wide release.

The Making of Daniel Boone is a comedy about how certain films get made and it's based on some of the writer/directors own experiences working on films over the years. Allan Kenton (Brown) is a writer and a Daniel Boone historian. He's convinced to work as a consultant on a biopic about Daniel Boone which the producer insists is true to detail and fact. Kenton learns it's anything but fact filled and is sure that the film will ruin his reputation as a Boone scholar. Chopper Bernet plays an actor playing Daniel Boone.

Mark Capri (Warrant Officer M'Kae in ESB) stars as Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure at the Temple of Music and Art for the Arizona Theatre Company in Tucson, AZ). I'm told that Capri does very well in the role as Holmes and the production is true to the writing style of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure continues until March 25, 2006.

Peter Michael Goetz (General Madine in the ROTJ Radio Drama) is starring as Pollonius in Hamlet presented at the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis, MN until May 7, 2006.

David Alan Grier (provided the voice for Bo Shek and other characters for the ROTJ Radio Drama) will be featured in the new animated series from Keenan Ivory, Shawn and Marlon Wayans, called Thugaboo. The series will premier on Nickelodeon later this year.

James Earl Jones (voice of Darth Vader) Narrates, lends his voice to, Trail of Tears: Cherokee Legacy a documentary about the Cherokee Indians and the "Indian Removal" that took place by President Andrew Jackson's orders. Wes Studi leads us through the documentary in Cherokee.
The brutal Indian Removal forced Indians (in particular the Cherokee) to travel west into Oklahoma, the journey took 18 months and nearly one quarter of those Cherokee died from starvation, exposure and exhaustion.

Just released on DVD on March 1, 2006.

Ian McDiarmid (Palpatine in OT/PT) - is set to star as William Cecil the 1st Baron of Burghley (called Lord Burghley) in an HBO produced mini-series called Elizabeth I. Helen Mirren plays Queen Elizabeth I. Burghley was Elizabeth's administrator as Secretary of State then as Lord Treasurer. He was one of several men whom Elizabeth solidly trusted.

The four hour series starts in April on HBO.

Peter Serafinowicz Does Hollywood

Peter Serafinowicz (voice of Darth Maul) has produced, and his brother James directed, a short film parody of the Oscar statuette. Peter also has a couple of parts in the film. Some may recognize Sarah Alexander (Susan Walker from Coupling) as Al Pacino's arm candy.

New Sketches!

Hello all.

I'm a little late in getting new work to you but I do have some sketches to show you.

I just started a new art blog, with a scant three entries, but more entries will arrive soon.

The first entry you'll see, after a nearly non-existent scroll, is the one I wanted to share with you tonight. It's the first time I've shared a pre-color sketch for an in-progress work. HERE

There may be one or two people out there that might recognize the bottom "painting", it is of Old St. Mary's church which is in Nicasio, not far from THE Ranch.

What makes little churches like that so special is they are contrasted against a mostly nature background setting. You could almost believe that you've gone back in time a step or two.

I've also gathered selected pieces of my artwork into one convenient location. Here's the site. More work is coming, mostly sketches at this point since I'm in the heart of it all right now, but I've managed to get some SE stuff out of my hands.

Blog and Site update!Yep, another week has passed and here we are again.

Joel Edgerton (Owen Lard - PT) will have a small but interesting role in Joe Carnahan's upcoming film Smokin' Aces. It stars Ray Liotta, Andy Garcia, Jeremy Piven, Don Cheadle and several others including a gal I went to high school with, Clare Carey (Coach).It's about a guy, Buddy Israel (Jeremy Piven) a magician turned mobster, who turns state evidence against the mob and those who want to kill him for doing so. Edgerton didn't go into any detail on his character.The film will be released sometime this year.

Harry 'Aitch' Fielder (Death Star Trooper Grenwick in ANH; ROTJ) - Aitch wrote me a couple of weeks ago to tell me about a load of new screenshots that were up at his site. I've added a few of them to his page.

Tom Kenny (Biggs in SW Rogue Squadron II & III) will voice Leon in Squirrel Boy, a new series on the Cartoon Network. They will start the show with 13 episodes which will air in July of this year (2006). Kenny will also voice a character in the new series Class of 3000. Other Star Wars alum in this series' cast are: Jennifer Hale, Phil LaMarr and Jeff Glen Bennett.

Peter MacNeill (Jord Dusat in Droids) who was in A History of Violence last year will star in The Marsh on the big screen, a story of a young children's writer who has to solve a mystery in a horror setting. To be released later this year.MacNeill is also set to play General Anderson in a new mini-series called Above and Beyond which centers around the Atlantic Ferry Operation of World War II. The North Atlantic Ferry Operation of World War II was arranged to allow US built aircraft to be flown from Montreal, Quebec to Prestwick, Scotland for the war. Release is scheduled for November 2006.

Michael Pennington (Moff Jerjerrod - ROTJ ...I DID IT!! lol) will star in the Best of Friends on stage. Pennington plays Sir Sydney Cockerell, curator of the Fitzwilliam Museum at Cambridge. And, as I wrote HERE......The Best of Friends centers on the friendships of Co*ckerell, George Bernard Shaw (Roy Dotrice) and Dame Laurentia McLachlan (Patricia Routledge), a benedictine nun, Abbess of Stanbrook Abbey and writer. The play, adapted by Hugh Whitemore, interweaves the letters and essays of the three good friends into an interesting and entertaining piece of theatre.The play runs through March. and I believe into May, at the Hampstead Theatre, Swiss Cottage, London.

Oscar Brief...

I don't know why I'm writing this but I'm up and I gave it a second of thought and nobody else to tell (all asleep). Work is going well but I am a little on the tired side. Just a scant couple of weeks until the show.

In my site update blog of February 6. I mentioned that Keira Knightley had been nominated for an Oscar. It's too bad she didn't win but I did peg Witherspoon to win for her role as June Carter Cash in Walk the Line.

Nice that Philip Seymore Hoffman and Gorgeous George Clooney won.

The tone here is super mellow...I may be one of the few people here who enjoys watching the Oscars and doesn't give a flip who wins or loses since it has nothing to do with me personally and I have no vested interest otherwise. That's not to say that I don't have my little pet wishes, favorites or that I'm not a little disappointed when a film I loved didn't make it to the nominated list. But, I just don't see why people are angry about who/what was nominated or up-in-arms about some silly political statement someone has made in one of the films or in a personal speech or how awful someone looked or how they didn't deserve to win because they can't act.

I think every one of the people nominated deserves the honor. A lot of people who deserved the honor didn't make it but they've been honored in other ways.

I was reading somewhere a week or so ago, from a Star Wars related actor (can't recall which one at this moment) who is a member of the academy and votes every year, mentioning that it's difficult for most of the members because they are sent nearly 90 movies to screen. You do the math. Paid critics can't get through that many movies in that short period of time so how could any working actor do it?

Even when I retired from "normal" work in 2000 and spent a year off I couldn't have fit in 90 movies over the year...I suppose technically I could have but yeesh! that's a ton of films.

I'm sure I'd do just what they did, pick the films they'd heard of, watch the ones I had time for (if I hadn't seen them already in the theater) and vote on those few...then wait for the outcome like everyone else. Then I'd move on to the next thing forget about who won or lost and do it all over again the next year. hehe Yippee, free movies!!

If I had the opportunity to be nominated and the chance to actually win one of those statuettes I'm sure I'd have no problem with some people who thought whatever I did was cool enough to honor with even a few votes. Who wouldn't want a pat on the back? But, hey I'm happy when my three year old son congratulates me for a job well done by saying, "good boy, mama!" (I say, 'good boy' to him a lot so he returns the same in kind.)

Like I said before I'm probably one of the few who likes the pomp and parading and I like to see people win, I think it's pretty neat and I am happy for them.

Like many things in the world people make much ado about nothing, just as I have here this bleary morning.

The Common Thread

Recently, while looking up information on playwright George Bernard Shaw and Museum Curator Sir Sidney Cockerell I came across a neat bit of connective thread between these men, T. E. Lawrence and our own Sir Alec Guinness.

Most of you may know that Guinness played Prince Faisal in Lawrence of Arabia (the film that was somewhat fact-based on T. E. Lawrence, who was Lawrence of Arabia) and that Peter O'Toole played Lawrence himself.

But did you know that an Arabian dressing robe purchased, somewhere in the Middle-East, by Cockerell was given to T.E. Lawrence, then left to Shaw after Lawrence's death in 1935, Shaw used it for a while then sent it back to Cockerell who later gave it to Guinness? Yep.

Here's the bit I found.

Shaw was a good friend to Cockerell and both had been friends of T. E. Lawrence before his death. Shaw, a playwright and a casting director of sorts (he wrote parts with certain actors in mind), once noted to someone ('round about 1940) he'd written a letter to, "take a look at a young actor named Alec Guinness." Shaw no doubt had seen a few of the plays Guinness was involved with at the time (the Old Vic in London for sure) and was obviously excited by the young, talented actor. This may have been the stepping stone to the friendship between Shaw, Cockerell and Guinness.

Cockerell (Sir Sydney Carlyle Cockerell), a curator/director of the Fitzwilliam Museum at Cambridge and printer, had corresponded with Guinness for years. One letter written in reply to Guinness's conversion to Catholicism shows Cockerell a little baffled at the religious turn in his friend. He wrote: "But how can you believe in a creative all-good, all-wise God, knowing that you have an appendix, which is a totally useless organ and can prove dangerous?" I'm sure the intersecting lives of the four men mentioned above is how Guinness came upon the robe in the end. It's interesting to think that Lawrence would never know that the robe would at some point be in the hands of a man who played a role in the telling of his own story.

On a related note: A play called The Best of Friends centered on the friendships of Cockerell, Shaw and Dame Laurentia McLachlan, a benedictine nun, Abbess of Stanbrook Abbey and writer. The play, adapted by Hugh Whitemore, interweaves the letters and essays of the three good friends into an interesting and entertaining piece of theatre.

This year Michael Pennington (Moff Jerjerrod - ROTJ) plays Sir Sydney Cockerell in that very same play. The play runs through March. and I believe into May, at the Hampstead Theatre, Swiss Cottage, London.

How funny that I'd stumble across such information by looking for something else. What a treasured thing reading is. hehe

I've been wanting to draw an original Twi-lek and decided to combine that with a self portrait. I'm not a self portrait liker (probably why I chose the hybrid), if it's OF myself that is but it's an artists duty to render a portrait of themselves at different points in their life.

The photo reference is a picture taken of me by my friends Peter and Pieter. We spent an all-nighter (11 pm - 6 am) dressing ME up in different costumes and make-up styles (though Twi-lek was not one of them) and taking photos.
We had a blast.

Edward Asner (Jabba the Hutt in the ROTJ radio drama) reminder. Asner has only a few shows left in The Great Tennessee Monkey Trial left in Los Angeles (March 1 - 5). The production which has been on an all-city tour is produced by LA Theatre Works which has enjoyed a great following via radio broadcasting of their performances.
The productions have starred numerous Star Wars alum:

Ayesha Dharker is filming Outsourced in Mumbai, India as well as The Contest. Both are due out this year (2006). Outsourced is a comedy starring Vince Vaughn. Two workers try to get their jobs back after they have been outsourced. Dharker plays Asha in the upcoming film.

The Contest is a comedy starring Indian comedic actress Shabana Amzi.

Dharker's latest release, Colour Me Kubrick, also starred the late William Hootkins (Jek Porkins) and was released late last year (2005).

Nick Jameson (voices characters, including Palpatine, in 19 different Star Wars video games and voice Palpatine in Star Wars: Dark Empire the audio book) reminder. Jameson will once again star as Yuri Suvarov the Russian President in the TV series 24, the episode airs on March 6, 2006.
